Soundoc, is at its fourth edition. Created in 2007, it aims to provide a space to the most interesting filmmakers that apply their visual talent to music.

The clips show Ray Cappo talking about how he grew up as a teenager and his first experience with alcohol. Cappo now works as a Yoga teacher in Beverly Hills. Ian MacKaye talks about militance in straight edge and what’s wrong or not with caffeine.

The documentary traces the historical development of the Straight Edge subculture from its early roots in the beginning of the 1980s to this day. Ian MacKaye, Ray Cappo and Karl Buechner are portraied as initiators of the 3 ‘waves’ of Straight Edge (Old School, Youth Crew and the 1990s) and comment on the history, philosopy and criticisms of the subculture. EDGE also introduces 9 individuals, that identify as Straight Edge. They are being connected to different elements of the subculture, such as Punk  (Russ Rankin), DIY (Kent McClard), Anti-consumerism (Bull Gervasi), Environmentalism (Priyesh Patel), Animal rights & Veganism (Peter Young), Feminism (Eva ‘Genie’ Hall). Dr. Ross Haenfler, a sociologist, raises the question if Straight Edge can be seen as a movement.

The documentary was written and directed by Marc Pierschel and Michael Kirchner. It will be relased on DVD by Compassion Media on May 15, 2010.

Gedruckt wird natürlich auf 100% Recycling Papier. Leider wird das Buch nicht mehr vor Weihnachten fertig, aber dafür pünktlich zum neuen Jahr. Der Titel ist übrigens “Vegan lecker lecker!”, der Umfang knapp 100 Seiten und es gibt zu ca 95% der Rezepte ein Foto. Ihr dürft weiter sehr gespannt sein ;)
